Contrary to earlier reports suggesting OnePlus might forgo launching its high-end smartphones in India, the flagship OnePlus 16 series appears poised to arrive in the Indian market. Well-known tipster Gadgetsdata (active on X under that username) posted that OnePlus is preparing to launch two flagship phones in India soon. One is described as “highly likely” to be the OnePlus 16R, while the other is “speculated” to be the OnePlus 16.
The tipster indicated that the Indian launch for these OnePlus flagships could take place in December 2026 or January 2027. Meanwhile, the iQOO 16, Motorola Signature 27, and Xiaomi 18 Pro have also been confirmed for release in India. Additionally, the OnePlus 16 is scheduled to launch in China on October 12. We will be keeping a close watch on this—stay tuned.
OnePlus 16R Specifications and Price (Expected)
Reports suggest that the OnePlus 16R may launch in India with specifications mirroring the rumored OnePlus Ace 7. The device is expected to be powered by the flagship-grade Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, delivering performance that far surpasses the OnePlus 15R. Additionally, it may feature a 6.78-inch 1.5K LTPS OLED display with a refresh rate boosted to 185Hz—up from the 165Hz found on its predecessor.
Camera upgrades are also likely, including a dedicated 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom—a feature absent in the previous model. Furthermore, the main camera is expected to utilize a more powerful 200MP sensor, replacing the 50MP sensor used previously. This promises to enhance photography performance, addressing a common criticism of the OnePlus 15R. For selfies and video calls, the device will likely retain a 16MP front-facing camera.
Additionally, the OnePlus 16R is reported to house a massive 9,000mAh battery, offering significantly longer battery life than the 7,400mAh battery found in the OnePlus 15R. It is expected to support 100W wired charging and come pre-installed with the latest ColorOS 17 system.
Regarding pricing, rumors suggest the OnePlus 16R will cost between ₹70,000 and ₹75,000. If true, this would be a substantial increase over the OnePlus 15R; the latter launched at ₹47,999 and currently sells for ₹59,999 following several price hikes. However, the upgrades—particularly in the camera department—may well make the OnePlus 16R a device worth anticipating. However, these are currently just rumors; please treat them with caution until an official announcement is released.
