Sean Parker is rebuilding Stability AI around music.

Napster co-founder Sean Parker is returning to the music industry, telling The Information that this time he intends to play by the rules. (He candidly admitted that his previous approach—asking for forgiveness rather than permission—did not work.)
Two years ago, he participated in an $80 million rescue package for the image-generation startup Stability AI. The company had nearly collapsed due to overspending and internal turmoil that led to the ousting of founder Emad Mostaque. Now, Parker and his longtime friend Prem Akkaraju—who has taken over as CEO—are gradually pulling back the curtain on the company they have built.
Parker stated that their core mission is to establish Stability as the AI tool developer of choice for music professionals. To this end, the company announced in late August that it had secured $76 million in funding from investors including Sony, Warner, and Universal Music—companies that also licensed their music libraries to Stability for model training. Since then, Stability has released three new audio models and AI music editing software. The AI is capable of generating full instrumental tracks or short clips based on text prompts. Parker revealed that an upcoming update will allow users to control the AI’s output by humming melodies or beatboxing drum patterns.
